SUNDAY 6TH JULY – 4.00PM
AT THE BIGG THEATRE HIGH STREET, BIGGLESWADE
PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT
To commemorate 80 years since the end of WW2 we have commissioned a tailor-made event funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, by speaker and 1940s tribute singer Melody Flyte who performs with an ENSA uniform and vintage mic.
Act 1 will be a talk about the lives and experience of three ‘Sweethearts’ – Gracie Fields, Joyce Grenfell and Vera Lynn – who went out with ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association) into the theatres of war to sing for troops behind the lines and in the hospitals. It will feature performances of WW2 songs including We’ll Meet Again and the White Cliffs of Dover.
Act 2 will be full of well-known songs from the 1940s including Chattanooga Choo Choo and Bless ’em All alongside lesser-known songs popular during the war including When the Lights go on Again.
The Bigg Theatre is fully accessible and the coffee shop and bar will be open from 10.00am so come along before the event and some coffee and cake. Doors will open to the auditorium at 3.30.
Tickets are £3 for Biggleswade History Society Members and £5 for the general public.
Tickets Available in person (Cash only) from Howells Newsagents, Hitchin Street and The Bigg Theatre. They will also be on sale for cash and card payments on our stall on Saturday 5th July in the Market square during the Council’s Victory Weekend event (subject to availability).
