Family History

We shall be pleased to add family history records from anyone who has a Biggleswade connection; files in Rich Text Format would be appreciated although GEDCOM will also be welcomed. We shall include a link to the donor but this will be in a form designed to fool e-mail harvesters. To e-mail the person concerned you will need to remove the [] and replace text within by the characters referenced. ‘Stray’ events’ are listed at the bottom of the page for now.

Rosemary Barrett rosemay52[at]yahoo[dot]com[dot]au Oct 2005 James Tingey married Sarah Munt 19th September, 1853, Luton
My great grandfather was James TINGEY he was born in Biggleswade around about 1833 to William TINGEY – occupation of Labourer.  I later found out that his mother may have been Mary Ann TINGEY (nee HUCKLE); not yet proven.  James TINGEY married Sarah MUNT on the 19th September, 1853 at the Parish Church at Luton. .[James is not in the 1851 census of Biggleswade but there is a William aged 65 born Biggleswade Ag Lab, with his wife Mary aged 64 born Eaton Socon on H0107/1753/ED180 F586 in a locality in Biggleswade called Cow Fair Lands.  The only other TINGEYs in Biggleswade in 1851 were Thomas 57 born Biggleswade with wife Ann 56 born Sandy on Folio 562 and a William TINGAY on Folio 632 aged 70 born in Cambridgeshire. – Ed – from Biggleswade History Society transcription]

Clive Sandon   csandon[at]ozemail[dot]com[dot]au Jun 2006  Emily Harriet Sandon, school mistress  1885
Emily Harriet Sandon is the mentioned in the 1885, 1890, 1894, 1903 and 1906 directories as “Miss Emily Sandon, Mistress, infants”; she is not in the 1910 though. The Board School, built 1874,  and Council School are one and the same. [Ed – The Biggleswade History Society has a 124 page document written by a member concerning education in Biggleswade.  This is highly detailed and the charge for it as a PDF document is £12.]

Cathy Young  vcyoung[at]prairienet[dot]org Jan 2007 William Twelvetrees, b. 1712, HUN; bur 04 Jul 1788, Biggleswade, BDF
My Twelvetrees ancestor, William, emigrated to America in 1852. He wrote a journal which had a lot of good information in it.  Here is some pertinent information from that journal: Wiliam Twelvetrees of Keyston bound himself apprentice to his father, Richard, from Mar 25 1727 to Mar 25 1734. The indenture had been handed down to the father of William Twelvetrees. As far as we know, William (born about 1712 in Huntingdonshire) was the first of that name to live in Biggleswade.  For simplicity and accuracy, here is a file RichardTwelvetrees. My grandparents, William Henry Smead and Ida Hazel Blott are listed on page 5 under Emily Elizabeth Twelvetrees who was my great grandmother.  Especially interesting is that Richard Twelvetrees (b. 1763) was the “estate carpenter to Squire Barnett. I would love to get more information about him. I am very interested in photos or drawings of buildings. I have a great appreciation for architecture.

I am doing research into the Victorian Cresswell family of Biggleswade (they were bankers and importers, connected with the brewery at Setchey, with importing in Lynn and banking in Baldock, but their family home, early to mid 1900s, was in Biggleswade). Any clue as to sources to start from would be much appreciated.

I’m trying to find out more information about Thomas Dean (born 1843), wife Jane (born 1854 , formally Jane Warren) and son Arthur John Dean (born 1879) all in Biggleswade. They were living in Stratton Street in 1881. I think that the son (Arthur John Dean) was living without his parents when just 12 in London.
